Amazon may start accepting bitcoin soon

Up until now, the only thing you could really buy with bitcoin is more crypto, NFTs and some products/services from US-based retail platforms/stores. Now we may be able to add another one to that list — Amazon.

Finding coin in the Amazon

One of the most noteworthy online retail platforms in the world (barring a few countries, including South Africa), may soon accept the virtual currency called bitcoin on purchases made through its system. This is according to one anonymous ‘insider’ who claims the retailer is building the capability into its platform as an “integral part” of the company’s future.

“This isn’t just going through the motions to set up cryptocurrency payment solutions at some point in the future—this is a full-on, well-discussed, integral part of the future mechanism of how Amazon will work,” the insider told the City A.M. publication according to Gizmodo.

And it looks like that may just be the beginning. Following the implementation of bitcoin as a payment option, the company reportedly plans to offer the same capability using other cryptocurrencies. Y’know, like ethereum, cardano and ‘bitcoin cash’.

Even more bizarrely, it looks like Amazon plans to develop its own cryptocurrency. Where have we seen that before? While an intriguing notion, none of this has been confirmed by the company itself. Of course, they’d have to call it Amazoin.
