It’s been nearly 2 months since Cyberpunk 2077’s first big patch arrived, promising to pave the way for future updates. Last night the latest big fix, the 1.2 patch, went live. And it is big.
The patch is a hefty 30GB, around thrice the size of the 1.1 patch, and there are a lot of changes. There are pages of quality-of-life changes, glitch and crash fixes, NPC behaviour adjustments, improvements to vehicles, console specific fixes, quest fixes, and tons more. As mentioned above, CD Projekt Red had said the next patch after 1.1 will be available in a few weeks. Now, depending on your definition of “a few”, two months may cut it for you. But we think it’s been a little longer than that, we could be wrong.
Cyberpunk has endured its fair share of woes. It released as a glitchy mess after several years of development and a handful of delays, and was met with responses ranging from tepid to inflamed. Sony considered the game such a mess that they pulled it off the Playstation’s digital store, and still haven’t put it back over a hundred days later.
CD Projekt Red committed to improving its title, beginning with patch 1.1. But not long afterwards, the company was struck by a ransomware attack. Hackers claimed to have stolen several of CD Projekt Red’s games’ source code, as well as sensitive company data, which they apparently auctioned off a few weeks later.
So, while this fix feels a little tardy, one surely understands why that is. We can’t imagine dealing with hackers is a fun time, and it’s definitely something that would demand your full attention.
Patch 1.2 is available for PC, Xbox, and Playstation versions of Cyberpunk 2077, and will hit Stadia later this week. Even though it’s massive, whether or not this is the last bandage the game needs is anyone’s guess. Even CD Projekt Red has left that open-ended.
