Instagram’s rolling out a feature that lets you save stories as drafts and edit them later

Instagram’s Stories feature is incredibly popular. Possibly more so than the app’s core function for some people, and now it’s getting an update: Drafts.

It does what it says on the tin. The new feature will let you use Instagram’s in-app camera to take a photo or video, litter it with effects and filters and so on, and then save it as a draft for you to come back to later. Currently, the only thing close to this is saving a story into your phone’s gallery, which automatically removes all the quirky effects you added in-app. This can be annoying if you’re the sort who dedicates loads of time and thought towards making an enthralling Stories experience for your followers.

The news comes by way of Instagram’s head-honcho, Adam Mossei. His Twitter feed, specifically. Mossei tweeted “You asked and we delivered… story drafts coming soon”. Well… we’re not sure who asked but yes, they certainly are delivering something. It’s as simple as most Instagram features. When you film a story you can hit the exit button. From there, you can Discard, Cancel, or use the new Save Draft option. When you return to post a new story, you can go into a “Drafts” section and find your saved stories.

Which is cool and all, but it’s not a whole lot more than a minor convenience. Instagram has yet to announce when exactly the feature will be released, but we’ll hazard a guess and say ‘soon’. On another front, Instagram (like so many others) is working on Clubhouse-like features too
