Nintendo held its 50-minute Nintendo Direct stream last night and, no, there was nothing to confirm the swirling rumours about the Nintendo Switch Pro (or whatever it’s called, if it even exists).
Instead, Nintendo-heads were treated to a pretty lengthy list of releases – some of them sequels, some remasters and some ports – they can expect to arrive on the Nintendo Switch in the coming months.
Nintendo Switch games incoming
Top among them were Splatoon 3, the latest instalment in the popular team-based paint-shooter franchise, and Mario Gold: Super Rush, which is the first Mario Golf title for the Switch. The good news is that the latter is scheduled for June this year, while the bad news is Splatoon 3 is slated for 2021.
There was little mention of The Legend of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild 2, as fans were reassured that more news would be coming later this year. Instead, The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD was announced, a port of the Wii/ Wii U exclusive from 2011. On top of that, Famicom Detective Club, a remake of NES classic that’s hugely popular in Japan is slated for the first half of this year.
Away from the first party news, it was revealed that the Bafta-winning indie-darling The Outer Wilds and the adorable Battle Royale Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout were both being ported to the Switch. Fans can also expect a new adventure for beam-katana wielding assassin Travis Touchdown in No More Heroes 4.
For players looking to smash their controllers in frustration, Ninja Gaiden Master Collection is in the pipeline, which includes Ninja Gaiden Sigma 1 & 2, along with Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor’s Edge. For gamers thirsty for new IPs, Nintendo revealed Project Triangle Strategy, a brand new tactical RPG from Square Enix and Neon White, a game in which players will have to kill demons in heaven (yes, really).
