Uncharted movie kicked to 2022

Uncharted

Here’s proof, if ever any more was needed, that COVID-19 continues to batter the movie industry. News has emerged that the much-anticipated Uncharted movie has had its release date kicked to next year.

According to a report on Variety, the Uncharted movie, originally slated for release in July of 2021, now has the tentative release date of 11 February 2022. We say tentative, because given what the COVID-19 pandemic may have in store for the lot of us, there’s no way of knowing whether the new release date is set in stone.

That having been said, Uncharted fans are used to waiting. Talks concerning the movie have been doing the rounds since before Uncharted 2: Among Thieves came out, all the way back in 2009. Back then the game’s fanbase was up in arms that Nathan Fillion wasn’t in the running to play Nathan Drake and instead the part of Naughty Dog’s tomb raider was going to go to Mark Wahlberg of all people.

A decade has passed since then and the Drake mantle has been taken up by Tom Holland – he of Spiderman fame – and looking at the pictures of the lad on set, he does cut a rather fine figure. Of course, the standing joke about Holland’s involvement is that, given how long an Uncharted film has taken to see the light of day, he may actually be old enough to play Nathan Drake by the time it comes out.
