DStv removes “Catch Up” service on its streaming service

Seemingly out of nowhere, DStv has removed the “Catch Up” feature from its streaming platform. In its place, users can now find a host of new categories that focus on everything from kids entertainment and movies to sport and various new TV shows. All of the same content is there it’s just… under a range of different banners. It came as a shock to many users who were forcibly logged out of their accounts and made to log back. Upon returning, they discovered that the Catch-Up menu was nowhere to be found, leading many to think that they’d have to wait 15 minutes before watching a rerun of something. What an absolute tragedy.

It’s a reasonable change considering the number of people who probably make use of the Catch-Up service. Having said that, this might have something to do with DStv launching the Explora Ultra and Streama boxes in the near future but that’s just speculating on our behalf. Dividing programming into categories is a great way to organise content so considering the digital push DStv is focusing on, it makes sense.

Catching up on Catch Up

To figure out why DStv went and made the change, MyBroadband reached out to Multichoice to ask what was up with the whole situation. The company confirmed that it was removing the Catch-Up feature from both its mobile streaming app and the browser-based app.

Said a Multichoice spokesperson, “Over the last two weeks, we began rolling out a navigation change that makes it easier for our streaming customers to find content to watch… The option to watch Catch Up remains the same, but titles are now grouped into user-friendly categories, namely TV Shows, Movies, Sport, and Kids.”

“All the same titles that customers enjoy streaming under the Catch-Up section remain on the service and can be found via the new categories,” MultiChoice said. So don’t get your pants in a twist, everything you’re looking to catch up on is still right there.
