Don’t sell your PS4, you can use it to play PS5 games in another room

Sony has given PlayStation 4 owners a reason to not just pack their old console away and never look at it ever again. With the launch of the PlayStation 5 just a week away, Sony has confirmed that users that also own a PS4 will be able to continue playing PS5 games through streaming them onto the PlayStation 4. As long as both consoles are connected to the internet, you’ll be able continue playing a PS5 game on a PS4 in a different room.

Why you have your consoles spread out like that is beyond us but we’re not about to judge your living situation. Respect the journey.

In an FAQ blog post, Sony confirmed that the PlayStation 4 will allow users to access their PlayStation 5 through what is essentially Remote Play, a feature that’s been around for some time now. Remote Play allows PlayStation users to stream their games onto any device that has the app installed. That could be your Android smartphone, iOS device or even a computer. It’s really handy for when you’re enjoying a game of Bloodborne and suddenly need to rush to the loo.

Of course, the existence of the Remote Play app means that you don’t technically need your PS4 to stream your PS5 games to different screens but it at least gives the soon-to-be old generation console a purpose, right?

What’s new with you, PS5?

The FAQ post also provided some further interesting nuggets of information. We now know that the PS5 will not be region locked, meaning that you’ll be able to purchase and play games from anywhere in the world without worrying about which country it’s from.

PS Now has also been confirmed for the PlayStation 5 which is certainly nice to have. PS Now is a subscription service that provides users with 700 games that can be streamed to their console (or downloaded for more modern titles). It would be daft for Sony to not continue the service on their next gen console but it’s still nice to have it confirmed, you know?

The PlayStation 5 launches next week, 19 November for R12,000 and R10,000 for the Digital Edition. The hype is real, gang.
