LG plans on showing off its new Wing smartphone on 14 September

LG’s typically not the sort of company to spring a leak but every so often it does something unusual that gets out into the world a little early. The South Korean company has opted to try and embrace its latest leak, confirming that LG Wing is totally a thing and also saying when we can expect official details. LG’s Wing device will turn up, officially, on 14 September.

One Winged angel

And it seems that the LG Wing is just the first of many off-the-wall devices from the company. LG Wing is the first to issue from its so-called Explorer Project, which is “…LG’s new mobile category aimed at discovering new ways to interact with mobile devices, focusing on the evolving and ever-changing needs of today’s consumers and challenging established user norms.”

To us, that sounds like they’re going to be trying a few new things. A swivelling smartphone to start off with means this is how LG is playing things safe. If the company has other form factors in mind, they’re likely to get even more experimental over time. This handset, though, is expected to pack a Snapdragon 7-series processor, a 64MP camera sensor (one of three), and will support 5G. Plus, you know, it looks rather strange. Should be worth checking out.

LG’s Wing reveal (and possibly a few others) will take place via the company’s Facebook and YouTube pages on 14 September at 10:00 EDT (Eastern Daylight Time). Here at home, that’s 16:00 on 14 September. Stick around, as we’ll be keeping an eye on matters.
