Missing your sports? DStv is getting two new ESPN channels this week

DStv

We know that DStv isn’t in everyone’s good books right now but they’re taking steps in the direction of more… well, sports — which is the thing that South African viewers like most about the service. Multichoice is adding two new sports channels from 29 July (that’s later this week) from ESPN, thanks to a new partnership with the Walt Disney Company Africa.

Sporting chance

The two new channels are both set to be 24-hours and will feature “…National Basketball Association (NBA), National Football League (NFL), National Hockey League (NHL) and Major League Baseball (MLB)” taken from ESPN 1 and ESPN 2 in the States, as well as football — including matches from the “…English Football League (EFL), Scottish Premier Football League (SPFL), Dutch Eredivisie, Major League Soccer (MLS)” and the West African Football Union (WAFU) Cup of Nations, among other events.

“As Africa’s leading video entertainment platform, we are unwavering in our commitment to ensure that we continue to find the best available content to delight our customers, both now and into the future. We endeavour to deliver both world-class international content as well as the very best in local content, giving our loyal customers a never-ending selection of outstanding entertainment,” said MultiChoice Group CEO, Calvo Mawela.

What DStv hasn’t done is made it clear which subscriber tiers will be getting access to the new channels or whether there will be an extra cost for some ESPN love. The way things are going, as many customers as possible for as little as possible is probably the best bet. That may just be wishful thinking on our part, however. We’ll update once those details are actually available.
