Facebook and Instagram will now do its part to keep you masked up

Because that’s just what we need: Facebook taking the high ground.

Honestly, there isn’t much to preach about here, because South African’s have gone out of their way to listen to uncle Cyril and wearing masks.

Unlike some neighbours across the ocean, local people have mostly done their part by wearing masks and promoting masked faces in their social groups. But now Facebook and Instagram are here to help remind you that masks work and should be worn at all times outside the house.

“Facebook is supporting the global public health community’s work to keep people safe and informed during the coronavirus public health crisis,” Facebook said in an announcement.

The social media platforms will now try to convince more people to wear a mask by prominently displaying an alert at the top of people’s news feeds on both Instagram and Facebook. You’ll see the alert along with links to Facebook‘s coronavirus information centre as well as the CDC‘s official coronavirus page.

You know what? If a post on Facebook can sway someone’s voting decision in the US, we’re quite convinced a post about wearing masks will convince quite a lot of people to turn to the safe side.
