Assassin’s Creed Valhalla will take the series to the era of Vikings!

Revealed in a live stream creation of the game’s first poster by artist BossLogic, we still know very little about what we can expect from the game outside of the setting which, while pretty cool, doesn’t strike us as very “Assassin’s Creedy”. Like, Vikings are known to be barbarians, not lithe killers. Still, there’s always an opportunity to turn that stereotype around.

With Ubisoft slowing down production on their incredibly successful and popular Assassin’s Creed franchise, what we’ve come to expect from the series has changed in the last few years. With AC: Origins and Odyssey shifting the series into a role-playing game like territories, a move the series desperately needed to make to avoid stagnation, it’s difficult to predict exactly how the next game will play. While much is still a mystery, we at least have some idea as to what we can expect in the future as Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla has officially been unveiled…kinda.

The announcement took the form of a live stream following acclaimed online artist BossLogic as he went about designing and creating the game’s first poster. It was actually a thoroughly interesting stream with BossLogic using some incredibly intricate processes to create his art. If you’ve eight hours lying around and fancy a tour in the process of digital design, give it a watch. You can find a VOD of the stream here.

As for the game itself, details are still sparse as to how exactly Assassin’s Creed will use it’s Viking theme. Probably plenty of big axes and hammers. Ubisoft has confirmed that a proper trailer for the game will launch on 30 April at 11am EST, which will be 17:00 for South Africa. The trailer might reveal a release date and the platform’s it’ll be available on but that’s just speculation on our behalf.
