LG’s doing its weird dual-screen thing again with the V60 ThinQ

MWC, coronavirus, blah, blah… yeah, the largest mobile phone convention in the world was taken out by an invisible organism, leaving everyone involved to fend for themselves. So we’re looking at a trickle instead of a torrent of info. Part of that trickle is LG’s new flagship smartphone, the LG V60 ThinQ, which… let’s be fair, they were gonna out on their news portal ahead of time anyway.

V60 power

The chip of the year for manufacturer’s top-end products is the Snapdragon 865, the company’s 5G chip. Guess what LG’s V60 ThinQ 5G has inside it? Easy guess, no?

There’s also 8GB of RAM, 128GB or 256GB of storage, and a 5,000mAh battery to look forward to, fronted by LG’s 6.8in P-OLED display (2,460 x 1,080). These seem to be close to standard specs for 2020. Just… you know, variations on a theme.

In terms of camera, LG’s fielding a triple lens arrangement — even if it doesn’t look like it. There are four holes on the back there. LG’s following the massive sensor trend with a huge 64MP f/1.8 main lens, a secondary 13MP super-wide f/1.9 and then their Z Camera ToF sensor. We’re not sure what performance will be like but it’s going to be fun finding out.

Seeing double

Rather than opting for a dedicated folding smartphone, LG’s offering its dual-screen case with the V60 ThinQ this year. The Dual Screen cover adds a second display, exactly the same sized and resolution of the V60’s main screen — 6.8in P-OLED display (2,460 x 1,080). On the outside? There’s a 2.1in monochrome display for all your notification and time-telling needs.

LG’s big new thing’ll launch from March this year. The first markets are set to be in the States, Europe and Asia, but we reckon South Africa’s on the list as well. We’ve reached out to LG here at home to find out just when it’ll be arriving. Pricing hasn’t been announced yet, anywhere.
