Stuff South Africa

You’ll now be able to stream the F1 2020 pre-season testing without DStv

The streaming revolution is going full throttle, as South Africans gain more channels to watch content on — even sport. Finally, the F1 TV Pro streaming service is available in South Africa for R77 per month.

Not only that, but subscribers will be able to watch the 2020 pre-season testing live from 19 February. That mean’s you’ll have the same privileges only live TV viewers had before, but this time with a full live timing setup.

According to the F1 website, “[s]ubscribers to F1 TV Pro will be able to tune into live coverage of the tests at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya from 09:00 to 13:00 CET and then again from 14:00 to 18:00 each day.” This includes all the testing phases from 19-21 February and 26-28 February.

Fast-tracking streaming

DStv has had exclusive rights to most sporting events in South Africa through SABC and SuperSport for quite some time, locking users who want to watch live sport into lengthy contracts. SuperSport has exclusive rights on all South African and international rugby events, for example — not even SABC can touch that.

But it has become increasingly clear that all entertainment industries want to (and can) capitalise on streaming services. Feeding your product directly to the viewer through your own platform makes far more sense. So we’re expecting more and more sport events organisers and companies to go this route.

You can sign up for the F1 TV Pro streaming service right here, and make sure to check out the teams as they descend on the Spanish track to get their first look at the pecking order for the 2020 season.
