Anyone who’s tried their hand at streaming on any platform, even if it’s only been for a few minutes, will attest to the fact that finding the right camera for the job can be a real mission. Finding something that offers both a quality image as well as not being a total headache to mount and operate can be a challenge. A challenge that Logitech is accepting.
Launched today, the StreamCam is Logitech reached out to the streaming community once again and offering a gift of convenience and quality. Mountable either horizontally or vertically, the StreamCam boasts an impressive range of features for a slightly higher price tag than Logitech’s previous streaming cameras, the C920 and C922. Setting you back roughly R2500, it’s not a cheap device but it does come stocked with a range of snazzy features.
A maximum resolution of 1080p and 60fps, Smart Auto focus and exposure, a USB 3.1 connection, a stero/dual mono microphone and an f/2.0 lens with a focal length of 3.7 mm means that the StreamCam is a high end machine designed for capturing all those winning shots and shouts of elation.
What’s most interesting though is the use of the lens. F/2.0 is a wide maximum aperture, meaning that even in really dim light the StreamCam should be able produce a fairly decent image. Which is very important, considering the camera doesn’t have a built in light unlike the Razer Kiyo. The StreamCam doesn’t support 4K capture but at the same time, who’s actually watching Twitch in 4K anyway?
Beyond the hardware, Logitech has also been hard at work redesigning it’s streaming software, making the whole process far more streamlined and accessible. A Dark Mode, live text overlays and frame rate or exposure prioritisation means that streamers will be able to tinker to their heart’s delight.
