Anthony Mackie ditches Comic Con Africa second year in a row

Either the Falcon really dislikes travelling to Africa or he is really bad at planning. Because Anthony Mackie has just announced that he won’t come to Comic Con Africa for the second year in a row due to a production delay in Budapest.

This comes a week after Game of Thrones star Isaac Hempstead Wright (Bran, sitter on the Iron Throne) also cancelled because he is contractually obligated to be at the Emmy Awards. Looks like the Comic Con Africa drawcards are starting to wear thin?

Mackie announced that he won’t be visiting SA for the con via a video posted by Comic Con Africa’s social media pages. Organisers have said that they will refund everyone who paid for autographs and meeting sessions. We recommend you get in contact if you want a refund.

We can still geek out

To be fair, Comic Con Africa has much more than a few famous faces to look forward to this weekend. There will be stalls set up with everything from gaming hardware and accessories, apparel, pop-culture merchandise, comics, figurines and limited edition Funko Pops. It’ll also play host to the first-ever Kids Con hosted by Nintendo and feature all the latest games (like locally made Boet Fighter) that you can get some hands-on time with.

we are most excited about checking out some esport talent, as well as some cosplay talent, with some of the best in the biz making their way to Joburg for the con.

Last year the event only lasted three days, but organisers decided to bulk up the experience. This year Comic Con Africa will span four days from 21 to 24 September at Gallagher Convention Centre in Midrand. See y’all there.
