Move over Titanic, nobody really cares how big Rose’s door was any more. Avengers: Endgame has dislodged James Cameron’s aquatic earworm from its place as the second-biggest movie of all time. Endgame has earned over $2 billion in theatres, hardly a surprise given its opening weekend. It’s still got a little way to go to dislodge the highest-grossing film of all time (James Cameron’s Avatar — which earned $2.79 billion) but we reckon that Endgame will be able to scoop up another $600 million before it retires from theatres. At least. Amazingly, we’re still to encounter spoilers for the latest Marvel outing. Not that it matters, since we’ve all seen it here, but the spoiler-discipline so far has been remarkable.

If there’s one thing we know about the future, it’s that lasers are involved. All of the literature demands it (as well as some kinda human-computer brain interface — we’re still waiting for that one). And the United States Air Force might be leading the charge towards a future with lasers. The military arm claims to have used lasers to take down missiles in flight — a test that took place at the White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico last month. The project called the Self-Protect High Energy Laser Demonstrator (SHiELD — paging Nick Fury) apparently took down several air-launched missiles. The goal, obviously, is to mount the weapons system to aircraft, but it still has a way to go before it’s small enough for that. We’re keeping our eyes out for any video of SHiELD in action, in the meantime.

So it seems that folks were a little… horrified with the design of Sonic in the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog movie. We kinda saw that coming, based on the reaction to the early movie posters. But, having watched the first official footage, we don’t really see what all the fuss was about. Sure, Gangster’s Paradise was in the trailer for no reason and Jim Carrey is going to steal the whole damned thing but the character design…? It wasn’t that awful. But we’re in the minority, which is why the movie’s creators have opted to change the design for the titular blue speedster. But if they do that, there’s going to be a whole lot of overtime put in. Converting Sonic to another shape is going to strain the CG budget, and perhaps delay the release of the film. Hey, but the fans have spoken, right? Nothing personnel, kid.
Take care with the new Spider-Man: Far From Home trailer — it will probably contain Endgame spoilers
It’s not here yet but when it arrives, it could muck up your month. We’re talking about the new trailer for Spider-Man: Far From Home, of course. If you’re Marvel-mad (like the whole Stuff team — besides Craig) then you’re either avoiding spoilers for Avengers: Endgame or you’ve already seen it. And if you’re still in spoiler-avoidance mode, you’re going to have to be wary of the upcoming Far From Home trailer. But the trailer should let you know that. Spider-Man himself (Todd Holland) will be preceding the new footage with a notice that Endgame spoilers are contained within. We’re safe, on that score, but you might not be. So just bear it in mind, yeah? Or go and watch Endgame before the trailer drops. Which should be… pretty soon.
