Up close and personal with the camera tech in Huawei’s P30 Pro

Huawei’s P30 Pro is the smartphone to beat in 2019. Competing brands are going to be hard-pressed to do so, though, as Huawei’s got a head-start on its camera tech. And there’s no denying that camera tech is the standout feature of Huawei’s most powerful, most stylish smartphone to date. But what makes the device so special?

There’s a simple answer to that. Rather, there are four simple answers — the quartet of camera tech that sets this smartphone apart from the rest of the lineup. What are they? Well, we’re glad you asked.

Looks Leica pretty good camera setup

The P30 Pro has a monster camera system, the Leica Quad Camera arrangement. Designed to improve your smartphone images across the board, the arrangement uses Huawei’s 40MP SuperSpectrum Sensor, a 20MP Ultra-Wide lens, and then the company’s excellent 8MP SuperZoom lens. The’s also the Huawei ToF (Time of Flight) camera, which tracks depth of field even better than previous handsets. And on the front? That hasn’t been neglected either, with Huawei fielding a 32MP selfie sensor. Everyone looking to take excellent images need look no further.

Closer than ever

Speaking of that SuperZoom lens, that’s quite the detailed piece of machinery. The innovative feature has allowed for 5x optical zoom, 10x hybrid zoom, and a massive 50x digital zoom in Huawei’s flagship smartphone. Utilising an unusual lens and prism arrangement, this is how everyone will take smartphone images in future.

Coming Soon: Dual-View

Can’t decide whether you want to film up close to the action or looking at the bigger picture? The P30 Pro’s got Huawei’s Dual-View Video feature incoming as a future HOTA update. Dual-View Video will allow users to film both at once, scooping up wide-angle video as well as close up… at the same time. Budding video splicers will find their options greatly expanded by Huawei’s simultaneous shooting abilities.

Fun in the darkness

Night time is the best time for photography with Huawei’s P30 Pro. That’s because Huawei’s gone big with Night Mode, which used AI Image Stabilisation, Optical Image Stabilisation (OIS), and the company’s SuperSpectrum sensor to grab up all of the available light. ISO levels of up to 409,600 makes for excellent night time photography, even in the absence of anything resembling lighting. You haven’t seen evening smartphone photographs until you’ve seen what the P30 Pro can do. That’s a promise.
