Here’s what we know about the Huawei Watch GT – thanks to Huawei’s own website

It’s hard keeping secrets in an age where everyone has a video camera and a microphone in their front pocket, and when all the information you could ever need (and a whole lot more that you never will) lives inside that same device. Huawei learned that the hard way this weekend when the company prematurely published info concerning their upcoming smartwatch, the Watch GT.

All of the specifications for Huawei’s latest wearable were published on Huawei’s own site ahead of the company’s reveal event on 16 October, an error that was quickly corrected. But not quickly enough. Website TechAndroids was able to snag some screenshots and all of the product information before the page was taken down.

Which means the feline has escaped the burlap sack. Data on RAM and internal storage wasn’t leaked but basically everything else was. Huawei’s Watch GT will consist of a 1.39in AMOLED display (454 x 454) and a Cortex-A4 processor, with the watch receiving a 5ATM water-resistance rating.

There’s going to be an optical heart-rate monitor in addition to the usual run of sensors (accelerometer, gyro, and compass), as well as GPS and an ambient light and air-pressure sensor. It should be able to track all the things and, as you can see from the images, the stainless steel Watch GT won’t look out of place on anyone’s wrist.

The Watch GT will support the notifications you’d expect from a smartwatch, though we’d like to take a closer look at the exact extent of that feature. Seems fairly basic based on what we know so far.

The 420mAh battery, if Huawei’s claims are to be believed, will give you 30 days of up-time in watch mode, two weeks of standard usage or 22 hours in GPS mode. A wearable that doesn’t have to return to the charging port more than every 14 days would be a sight to see. When it does have to charge, Huawei’s latest has a magnetic charging base that’ll give you a charge in about two hours.

All that really remains is the official reveal event, where we’ll hopefully get pricing and availability in addition to what we know already. Technically this info is official, Huawei would just prefer that we weren’t talking about it right now.
