The Nokia 5.1 is now available in South Africa for R3,600

If you’ve been in the market for an Android One smartphone, Nokia’s got you covered with the Nokia 5.1. Their new mid-ranger is now available in South Africa from Vodacom and other key retailers.

The Nokia 5.1 is powered by a Mediatek Helio P18 chipset, 2GB of RAM and is equipped with 16GB of internal storage. It runs Google’s Android One platform, an as-close-to-a-Google-Pixel Android experience as you’re going to get without importing one of Google’s own handsets. The short version? A lot less bloat is involved.

It also has a microSD storage expansion slot, so you’ll have enough space to store your selfies. It features a 5.5in LCD display with a 2160×1080 resolution — which is unusual to find at this price range.

Around the back there’s a (solitary) 16MP camera sensor that features a wide-angle setup. Up front, you also get a wide-angle 8MP selfie camera.

The Nokia 5.1 retails in South Africa for R3,600 (if you’re not getting it on a contract) and you can only get it in black — good thing it’s not only available in bright orange.
