Expect to see Razer’s first smartphone on 1 November

Razer, the makers of neon green and black gaming peripherals, have got what looks an awful lot like a smartphone on the horizon. At least, that’s the impression we’re getting from the header image for what the company is calling their “biggest unveiling”. It looks an awful lot like a fellow playing games in the dark on a cellphone to us. Plus, you know, other evidence.

We’ve known since July this year that a smartphone from the company was possible. It was then that Razer bought up a company called Nextbit, which had released a handset called the Robin. It’s most likely from the acquisition that Razer’s November announcement springs.

And we might have a pretty decent idea of what such a phone might entail, thanks to the eagle-eyed folks at Phone Radar. A spec list for a handset called the Razer Phone appeared on GFXbench and seems to out the handset’s bits. A 5.7in 2,560 x 1,440 display is just the start, the phone is also supposed to have a Snapdragon 835 processor, Adreno 540 GPU, a massive 8GB of RAM, and 64GB of storage (49GB actual). We reckon you could probably play games on that, but there’s also talk of a dual-camera setup coming to the phone phone.

If correct, these specs would make the Galaxy S8 extremely nervous, especially in the RAM department. An image of the device has apparently leaked (via Technobyte) and it seems that the company might be toning down their traditional eye-searing green for this one. We’ll be watching on the day and then itching to get our hands on whatever it is soon after. Stay tuned.
