iPhone 8 launching in SA on 20 October

Are your buying fingers ready? We hope so, because we’ve got an on-sale date for Apple’s iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus for South Africa. And that on-sale date is Friday, 20 October, from the iStore.

Just one problem. iStore has not given out any pricing or even hints as to what Apple’s iPhone 8 will set us back yet. They’re probably saving that for a little closer to the time, when the rand reaches a point when they can stick a pin into it. In the meantime, you don’t have to think too hard about how much you’re about to drop on some new Apple hardware.

The pricing may be a mystery for now but we do have some other info available about the coming launch. iStore is letting prospective buyers sign up for (limited numbers of) a free extended warranty.

And then there is the matter of the store’s trade-in program, which has been expanded to allow buyers to trade in two qualifying iDevices towards a new iPhone 8 — a move which could net you R10,000 off if you happen to have two iPhone 7 Plus handsets in very good condition lying around, or, your know, an Apple TV, MacBook and iPad gathering dust. We’d want to ask why you’re not actually using those devices, but the iStore won’t ask you any silly questions like that.

iStore’s iPhone 8 page is live at present but you can’t access anything more than an overview of the handsets. When pre-orders and, later, actual orders open you’ll be able to crash the website at the link above.
