Samsung’s Note 8 specs benched, plus a possible camera surprise

Just when you think you know it all, something shows up and makes you question what you know. This is as true of the Galaxy Note 8 as it is with the rest of life — there’s always something more to learn.

Which is our long-winded way of saying that everything we know is… different. Well, not everything. And not that different. But there are reports of a subtle change for the Note 8’s dual camera system. It was thought that Samsung would be giving us dual 12MP sensors to play with but this may not be wholly accurate.

A report by ET News out of Korea (the nice part with internet access) claims, citing “industries” this week, that Samsung will be fielding a 12MP optical lens as well as a 13MP telephoto one to make up that camera system. A minor but perhaps significant change. Samsung’s mismatched pair will both have optical image stabilisation in common and the report also confirms 2x optical zoom for the Note 8’s backside.

If we’re having doubts about the exact nature of Samsung’s shooter, the same can’t be said for the rest of the specifications. There’s even less doubt now, as specifications have popped up in a set of online benchmarks.

The leaked specs, found on the GFXBench site, are: A 2.3GHz octa-core CPU (the Exynos 8890), 6.4in 2960 x 1440 display, 6GB of RAM, 64GB of storage, and Android 7.1.1. Which all jibes quite nicely with what we know so far. It’s just a matter of waiting for next week when Samsung’s New York event removes ALL the doubt. We’ll be there keeping an eye on proceedings, so stay tuned.
