Samsung is going to be making a Galaxy Note 8 this year

Note 7 recall

Samsung has just put the Galaxy Note 7 recall to bed, having completed and announced the results of its investigation into last year’s woes. You might think, after all that, that the Note brand might be seen as a little tainted but Samsung has instead confirmed that there will be a Galaxy Note 8.

What’s more, we’re going to see it this year. Samsung’s DJ Koh, speaking to CNET, said that he would “…bring back a better, safer and very innovative Note 8”, adding that 2016’s recall and investigation showed the company just how many loyal Note customers they have.

No details concerning the handset were shared, though we’d expect a bit of screen size and a stylus to make an appearance right when Apple will find it most inconvenient. Samsung will likely take cues from their Galaxy S8 launch, due to take place in the next few months, when it comes to features and hardware.

Speaking of the Galaxy S8, Samsung has confirmed that we won’t be seeing it at Mobile World Congress. That isn’t to say that the company won’t have a presence there but they’re looking for hog the limelight for the Galaxy S8. Samsung has to make a big impression to get back on track and a large, standalone event is just the way to do that. A date around mid-April has been bandied about for an S8 reveal, which leaves far more time for leaks. We’ll be watching you, Samsung.
