WhatsApp bringing video calling to Android, iOS, and Windows Phone

WhatsApp has the user numbers and, at this point, it don’t really need to add any new features to the messaging service. But that’s not stopping the rollout of new bits, with encrypted video calling being the next feature to land.

WhatsApp has confirmed that Android, iOS, and Windows Phone users are soon going to have video calling in the app. It’s past time, too, as testing took place as far back as May this year but the feature only hit an Android beta test last month.

How it’ll work, once the feature goes live, is that users can take the Call icon in a chat. A popup will offer a choice between a voice and video call. Seems to be easy enough.

The rollout is taking place around the world but the video calling option doesn’t appear to have hit South Africa just yet. The update should appear for all users in the next few days.
