iPhone 8 displays will be bigger than previous years – report

If you’re big on your iPhone then we’ve got some good news for you: Next year, your iPhone 8 (or whatever Apple happens to call it) is going to be bigger. Allegedly, anyway.

That’s the word according to Barclays analysts Blayne Curtis and Christopher Hemmelgarn, anyway. Citing sources from Apple’s Asian supply chain, the pair have claimed that Apple is going to be increasing the size of both the iPhone 8 and the Plus model of the 2017 handset.

In a memo seen by Business Insider, the Barclays duo said “iPhone 8 design didn’t sound 100% locked down but we believe the move is to a bezel-less design with screen sizes getting larger and curved edges in the original envelope. The IP8 moves to 5″ (from 4.7″) and the Plus moves to 5.8″ (from 5.5″).”

Oh, yes, and Apple is apparently ditching the bezels as well. The iPhone 8 Plus will also be making the jump to an OLED display, a move that has been in the pipeline for a long time. Even if it hasn’t actually happened yet.

The talk lines up with previous analysts and other rumours that have claimed that Apple is going bigger in 2017 but, as usual, the company isn’t saying anything one way or the other. If we want confirmation someone will have to find the prototype in a bar or we’re going to have to wait until September 2017 for Apple to say something.

The next iPhone, whether it’s called the iPhone 8 or something else, is going to be the tenth anniversary device and there’s a lot of talk of a drastic redesign on the way. Just how drastic it will be will likely be shown in the coming months.
