Samsung’s replacement Galaxy Note 7 handset seem to be beset by the same problems that plagued the first rollout — from last week’s report that a replacement handset set itself on fire, there have been a handful of other incidents in the States. This has become a problem, so much so that Samsung is reported to have halted production of the Galaxy Note 7.
The report, which originates from Korea, claims that Samsung has temporarily shut down production of the Galaxy Note 7, citing an unnamed official at a Samsung supplier. According to the source, the shutdown has taken place “…in cooperation with consumer safety regulators from South Korea, the United States and China” and includes a facility in Vietnam responsible for shipping the handsets globally.
Since the Korean report, several outlets have published reports of Samsung’s production suspension. The Wall Street Journal and Bloomberg, both citing their own sources, have chimed in on the matter.
Samsung could be primed to restart that recall or perhaps they would be better served by forgetting the handset and focusing on QA testing of their upcoming smartphones. The Galaxy Note 7 is getting harder and harder to be excited about. Unless you work for the fire department.
