Need an excellent video drone? DJI and Hasselblad have you covered

So you fancy yourself an aspiring filmmaker, do you? Care to put money on that? Not in the form of a bet or anything, but rather in the form of equipment. DJI, makers of some of the finest hobbyist drones on the market, recently entered into a partnership with manufacturer high-end camera Hasselblad and the first fruits of that meeting has been revealed. Congratulations, it’s a bundle.

DJI HasselbladNo, really. Hasselblad and DJI have announced a new camera-drone bundle that puts the DJI M600 and the Hasselblad A5D-50c Aerial camera together in a single purchase designed to make your insurance company clutch at its wallet in panic.

Actually, we don’t know that for sure since neither DJI or Hasselblad have offered a price for the bundle yet but since just the drone and the gimbal alone will set buyers back around R88,000, it’s not going to be cheap. Availability hasn’t been announced yet either.

Still, when it gets here the aerial video bundle will turn some heads, both during use and afterwards, when the footage is on-screen. The A5D-50c Aerial camera has a 50MP CMOS sensor and will ship with a HC 3.5/50mm-II lens, “…with the focus locked on infinity”.

The Matrice 600 drone is no slouch either. It uses DJI’s A3 flight controller and Lightbridge 2 for streaming HD footage to the ground. Flight times of between 15 and 35 minutes, customisable software and overall design with cinematography in mind makes DJI’s flying filmer an impressive proposition, whatever the eventual price turns out to be.
