Your iPhone 7 is going to look a whole lot like the iPhone 6S

Apple iPhone 7 mockup

Apple is widely expected to be ditching the headphone port in favour of another thinner solution which will mean that you’re either buying a dongle or new headphones. So much so that third-party companies are already punting their accessories. Now the Wall Street Journal has chimed in, lending further credence to reports of our 3.5mm-less lives to come.

While Apple will be dropping the 3.5mm jack in favour of Bluetooth or Lightning-powered cans and buds, there’s little else in the way of changes incoming. Apple, according to “people familiar with the matter”, are going to be using the headphone thing to shave off another millimetre from the iPhone 7 but that’s as far as the design changes are supposed to go.

Device size (4.7-inch and 5.5-inch) is supposedly going to remain unchanged and there won’t be any visual surprises. It’ll look like the iPhone 6 or 6s, regardless of the ‘invisible’ hardware upgrades headed our way, according to sources. What the report hasn’t put tongue to are those supposed dual cameras we keep hearing about.

We can expect to see something significant in the way of changes from Apple in 2017, when the iPhone turns 10. Then, the company is expected to roll out OLED screens and will probably incorporate their bigger design changes at the same time. At least, that’s the word on the street. We’re going to be watching the usual leak channels with a beadier eye than usual for confirmation, since Apple won’t give us any till September.
