The Bloodhound won’t be running through SA until 2017

We’ve long been keen on seeing the Bloodhound supersonic car in action, in no small part because it’s supposed to be doing its world-record run on South African soil. Unfortunately it was delayed in 2015 to 2016. Perhaps you can see where this is going.

That’s right, the Bloodhound SSC has been delayed again, until 2017, according to an announcement today from the Bloodhound project. The delay is because there are still funding deals up in the air and, as of right now, they can’t afford to send a vehicle rocketing across the South African desert at 1,240km/h.

“The most difficult part is behind us: we have designed and built the world’s ultimate racing car and prepared the best land speed racing track in history. We’ve also created a successful inspiration programme operating in 33 countries around the world,” said the project’s Richard Noble.

“What we need now are the funds to run the car and money is just a function of perseverance and timing. Doing something truly unique, on a global scale, with such high technology, is never easy – ask Richard Branson or Elon Musk, but that makes the story we’re sharing with millions of supporters all the more interesting.”

A UK test run is set for an unspecified time in 2016 before we finally get to see the rocket-car in action here next year.
