The new iPad mini 4 goes on sale this weekend

Given the new iPhone 6s and 6s Plus went on sale in South Africa today and the Apple Watch goes on sale next week, we can’t imagine anyone in the market for an iPad, who doesn’t already have one, isn’t broke. Or, you know, holding out for the iPad Pro. Nonetheless, if you do want an iPad and supersize isn’t your thing, you’ll be delighted to hear the iPad Mini 4 goes on sale in SA this weekend.

You’ll pay R7,000 for the entry-level, 16GB, Wi-Fi-only iPad mini 4, and R12,700 for the top-of-the-range, 128GB cellular and Wi-Fi model.

In case you need reminding, the iPad mini 4 is Apple’s latest 7.9-inch tablet. It offers a 2048×1536 pixel display, an A8 processor and weighs in at under 300 grams. It’s pretty. It’s slim. It’s lightweight. You’ll love it. But is it worth getting over the iPad mini 3? We’ve considered that here.

The short version is this: if you’re iPad-less and looking for the power of the iPad Air 2 in a smaller form factor, the iPad Mini 4’s boosted number- and graphics-crunching power combined with it’s 8-megapixel primary camera make it an easy sell. It’s also going to feel like a big upgrade if you’ve got an iPad Mini 2 and love it. But if you’ve already got an Air or the mini 3, you’re probably sufficiently covered until the next round of upgrades.
