Light Start – anti-Windows 10 pirates, Bitcoin, the G Pad II 10in, Sony drone and a giant woolly Yoshi

Got Windows 10? Pirates are going to be very wary of you

Windows 10Internet piracy is a thing and there’s no use pretending that it doesn’t exist. But it’s going to be slacking off, on computers running Windows 10 at the very least, thanks to current privacy concerns around Microsoft’s newest operating system. Several of the most-used torrent trackers (if you don’t know what those are, well done) are banning Windows 10 PCs based on fears about what the OS might be telling Redmond.

Bitcoin, demystified

What is Bitcoin? That’s what you get when you don’t have enough cents to make up a whole Rand, right? Not that the Rand is very strong at the moment, it could do with a few extra pieces in it. But no, the virtual currency Bitcoin is a lot stronger than the Rand is right now and it’s about to get a whole lot simpler, thanks to the University of Western Australia’s David Glance.

LG’s G Pad II gets another couple of inches and an enhancement or two

Perhaps you remember LG’s G Pad. It’s not especially memorable, so don’t feel bad if you don’t, but the company has unveiled a sequel to the sequel as it were. LG previously detailed the 8-inch LG G Pad II and now they’ve announced the 10-inch edition which gets bigger in more ways than one. Better display, processor, RAM allocation, and fairly stock storage options join hands with the monster 7,400mAh battery to create something that sticks in the mind. Pricing and availability to follow.

This is Sony’s drone prototype in action

Heard of Aerosense? That’s the name of the company Sony created to make commercial drones and this is a prototype VTOL (vertical takeoff and landing) drone that looks less like a DJI or Parrot and most like a stripped-down Harrier. The drone is reportedly capable of up to two hours of flight at a time, with a top speed of 170km/h, so the plane comparisons are… pretty apt in this case.

Don’t lie, you want this giant fluffy Yoshi Amiibo

We can’t even play the game that this special Amiibo release is designed for, Yoshi’s Woolly World, and we still want one. Nintendo have announced that they’re bringing this super-sized version of the fluffy Mario character to their popular Amiibo lineup where we expect it to sell out in very short order. But first you can get the standard size, which will launch with the game in October this year. The big boy is set for a November release.
