The future is now – Fujitsu debuts smartphone iris recognition

We’ve been teased with the ability to unlock a door or device using nothing but an eye-scanner in popular fiction for ages and it’s about time that the world caught up with that. Well, you’ll find that Fujitsu’s newest handset, the Arrows NX F-04G, has become the first smartphone to feature iris recognition technology.

Yes, Fujitsu makes smartphones. And this particular one comes with the highly futuristic biometric access option where it’ll scan your eye and allow you access to the phone. As well as certain website logins. The features is called Iris Passport and it definitely beats a fingerprint scanner.

As for the rest of the specs, the Arrow NX F-04G sports a Snapdragon 801, 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage, with space for a microSD. The screen is a 5.2-inch 1,440 x 2,560 IPS panel and there’s a 3,120mAh battery in the back to make things go. Not a bad collection of parts.

The bad news is that you can’t buy one just yet. Unless you’re in Japan and have about R9,300 worth of the local currency burning a hole in your pocket, that is. Whether it’ll make its way out of the country and to the rest of the world… that, we don’t know. But the tech will probably be appearing elsewhere soon. We’ll keep you posted.
