It’s official, Microsoft has announced that Windows 10 will be making its way into your life before the end of July this year. The updated operating system will be landing on 29 July, as an upgrade for existing Windows 7 and 8.1 users on PC and tablet.
The launch is set to be global, which means that South African users can get in on it as well, and you’ll be able to reserve your upgrade copy a little ahead of time. Just how far ahead isn’t known but it will entail going to Microsoft’s website (or registering through your existing OS), registering for the update and then waiting for Windows 10 to download when it becomes available.
Anyone who buys a new Windows 8.1 PC/tablet between now and the launch – Ts&Cs could apply so chat with whoever’s selling it to you – will also be eligible for the update. What hasn’t been made known is the launch date of the mobile version of Windows 10 – we’re still waiting on that.
Microsoft’s Terry Myerson said in the announcement post that “…we will continue to update Windows 10 over time with new innovations to help you be more productive and have more fun. Like Windows 10 itself, these updates will be free for the supported lifetime of your device.” So you could be sorted for life after this one… as long as your chosen machine is capable of running Windows 10, that is.
