A closer look at ASUS’ new ZenWatch 2

Unveiled at this year’s Computex event amid a collection of other devices was ASUS’ smartwatch sequel, the ZenWatch 2. The Android Wear device is taking a couple of cues from Apple by appearing in a variety of sizes and with a selection of straps, giving you a bunch of custom options to choose from.

The ZenWatch 2 will be available with 49mm (with a 22mm strap) and 45mm casings (with an 18mm strap) – similar to Apple’s available size variations. Straps will come in rubber, leather or stainless steel, while colour options for the casings are a choice between Silver, Gunmetal and Rose Gold.

What hasn’t been detailed are the precise specs for the smart wearable. We do know that ASUS has created an improved magnetic charge connector for the ZenWatch 2, as well as a few of the software features.

It’ll have Enhanced Remote Camera, which will let users remotely view their smartphone camera view so they can take shots without being too near the phone. Just keep an eye on your phone, yeah? Interchangeable software watch faces will be a thing, and there are fitness capabilities incoming. ASUS says that the ZenWatch 2 “…is a full-featured activity tracker that provides additional tracking functionality tailored for activities such as running and cycling.”

For the full specs, pricing and the like, we’ll have to wait until IFA in Berlin in September this year. But at least we’ve had a good long squiz at it now.
