It’s official: Apple Watch will ship in April, says Tim Cook

First announced last year, the Apple Watch was initially pegged for an early 2015 release. Would it be a quick post-Christmas release in January, or was it going to be more like March?

Apple Watch 12 ThingsSpeculation raged, as it always does, but now we have a better idea: turns out it’ll be April. Apple CEO Tim Cook has confirmed the month this evening in an earnings conference call, unfortunately offering up no other new details on the wearable device.

The Apple Watch will have a starting price of $349 (about R4,060), with a standard stainless steel model, a plastic-band Apple Watch Sport version, and the extravagant Apple Watch Edition with an 18-karat gold casing.

Multiple analysts speculated that Apple would release the watch in March, although it appears that the company will stretch its “early 2015” target with the April debut. Last we heard, Apple was still struggling to hit battery life targets, so perhaps extra time is being taken to get that right.

Whatever the case, we’re looking forward to properly testing out Apple’s first entry into the burgeoning wearables market, even if we have to wait just a little bit longer than anticipated.
