A pair of Huawei handsets Ascending to SA in early 2015

It’s not all that often that we get this much notice when it comes to smartphone releases but Huawei have gone and done it, letting us know that there will be two new phones in their lineup in early 2015. Unfortunately we have not been made privy to any specific launch dates but we do know the price range for the phones – which is something, at least.

Ascend G7 (2)The handsets in question are Huawei’s Ascend Mate7 and the Ascend G7 LTE, which are a high-end 6-inch (possibly) dual-SIM and a 5.7-inch mid-range-ish phone respectively.

The Ascend G7 will arrive with a 720p display, 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage with the option to add another 32GB with an additional card. A quad-core 1.2GHz chip from Qualcomm, with a Snapdragon pedigree, will be doing the heavy lifting and the G7 will launch with Android 4.4.2 installed.

On the camera front, a 13MP rear and 5MP front cam will be arranging your snaps for you. The price estimate Huawei has given for the Ascend G7 is between R4,000 and R5,000.

The Mate7 ups matters with a Full HD screen, a HiSilicon Kirin 925 octa-core processor is in place and there are two storage/RAM configurations. 16GB of storage will net you 2GB of RAM, the 32GB storage option adds another 1GB for a total of 3GB. The Mate7 supports microSD cards up to 128GB in size – nice.

The camera options are the same between the two incoming phones and you can also look forward to a fingerprint sensor. The price? It’ll set you back between R7,000 and R9,000.

We’ll have an update once more accurate info becomes available.
