It’s official – Android TV is here

Some time back we reported on the rumours surfacing on Google’s plans of entering your living room with their very own streaming service, and that is exactly what is going to happen.

Yesterday at Google I/O, the tech giant unveiled Android TV, their take on streaming TV.

Android TV will be a set-top box Android L powered monster encased in Google TV, and will look and perform much like existing competitors Apple TV and Roku. The content of Android TV will come from the Play Store, but the company will also offer content from Netflix and Hulu.

Other features include Search and Knowledge Graph which will give you some extra info on whatever it is you want to watch, and you will also be able to send content from another Android device to Android TV.

So far no word is out on when we’ll see Android TV hit SA stores, if ever, but we’ll be sure to keep you updated.
