MTN teaming up with simfy Africa to bring streaming to subscribers

MTN has announced a partnership with streaming service simfy Africa that will bring streaming music access to subscribers and customers, an offering that is launching today. According to the company, MTN is the first mobile operator to give this customers access to a music streaming option.

The service will cost R49 per month and will give users access to more than 23 million tracks as well as custom and curated playlists. MTN and simfy will be offering an offline mode as well as a two-week trial of the service for those that are undecided about whether to make the jump to streaming.

Those who subscribe will have to register at MTN’s website and then download the simfy app to their smartphones. Android, iOS and BlackBerry phones are supported at the moment.

simfy Africa CEO Gillian Ezra said in a media statement “We have a strongly African focus. As a company which is locally based, we ensure that our product is targeted to the needs of the South African consumer, both in technology and music choices. This partnership with MTN will further extend this ethos, allowing us to offer added and exclusive benefits.”
