Nokia’s Lumia 1320 landing in SA in May

It’s seen quite a delay but Nokia’s Lumia 1320, which was detailed by the company in an announcement in October last year, will finally be making its way to South African stores in May this year. Unfortunately we don’t have a launch date that is more specific other than ‘next month’ but the smartphone will be coming to “all major operators” in a couple of weeks.

Just as a refresher, the Windows Phone 8 Lumia 1320 will feature a 6-inch 720p display, dual-core Snapdragon 400 processor, 1GB of system memory, 8GB of storage, microSD card support (64GB) as well as a 5MP camera when it launches.

Pricing for the Lumia 1320 is a bit higher locally than it would be overseas but that’s par for the course in South Africa. The smartphone has an estimated (by Nokia SA) price locally of R4,500 when it lands next month. Contracts will start at R200 per month.

Nokia South Africa GM Shaun Durandt said in a press release “Like the Lumia 520, we believe the 1320 has a brilliant combination of hardware features and software experiences at a very compelling price. There is a definitely movement in the market towards larger screened smartphones, and the Windows Phone user interface really looks great with the extra screen real estate.”
