Amazon has just purchased game developer Double Helix

In what is a slightly unusual move by Amazon, the Kindle company has confirmed that they have acquired game developer Double Helix – the outfit responsible for Xbox One launch game Killer Instinct.

The confirmation was given to gaming website Game Informer, with Amazon reportedly saying that “Amazon has acquired Double Helix as part of our ongoing commitment to build innovative games for customers.” From that statement it is rather obvious that Amazon has more than just deliveries and digital sales on their minds but there’s no real sign what they want to do with Double Helix just yet.

TechCrunch first spotted the Amazon purchase, the terms of which are also unknown, by way of a leaked invitation for a recruiting event by Amazon and Double Helix later this month.

There have been rumblings that Amazon has their eye on creating and releasing their own console, this latest acquisition will just throw more fuel on that particular fire.
