Samsung’s Galaxy range has been aiming at every possible section of the technology market, it was only a matter of time before the South Korean company set its sights on the less well-funded technology user. Enter the Galaxy Tab3 Lite, a 7-inch tablet which was basically leaked earlier this week and made official by Samsung yesterday.
Given its aim at the lower end of the market, the Galaxy Tab3 Lite features specifications to match. The 7-inch display has a resolution of just 1,024 x 600 and the tablet will have a 1.2GHz dual-core processor. The Tab3 Lite will be dispensing with the front-facing camera while the rear shooter will have a mere 2MP sensor. System memory will be 1GB and the lower-cost tablet will feature 8GB of internal storage with support for an addition 32GB via microSD. Android 4.2 is set to do service as the OS for Samsung’s newest tablet.
Ars Technica has estimated the pricing for the Galaxy Tab3 Lite to be under $100, putting it around the R1,000 mark for markets like South Africa. That’s far from official though and we’ll have to see how Samsung actually prices the device but if they can hit the price point above, they’ll pull the wind from the sails of just about every generic tablet manufacturer out there. The Galaxy Tab3 Lite is expected to launch “globally” soon, we might learn more at this year’s Mobile World Congress event.
