Nokia turns a profit in Q3 2013

Finnish smartphone manufacturer Nokia have posted their financial results for the third quarter of 2013 and has reported an improvement year-on-year. Last year the company had achieved its sixth consecutive loss, reporting a loss of a little under $1 billion for the period.

This time around the news is better, Nokia has revealed that the company saw a revenue of $7.8 billion with an operating profit of $162 million. Not big numbers when taken alongside Apple and the other big players in the industry but at least Nokia is operating in the black.

It looks as though the currently reported quarter is a record-breaker for almost everyone, including Nokia. 8.8 million Lumia handsets are reported to have found new homes over the three-month period, an increase over the 7.4 million sold in Q2. The Lumia lineup is still outmatched by everything else from the company but that number is falling compared to last year, from 76.6 million to 55.8 million.

It may not be the largest of turnarounds but, as The Verge reports, things are looking up for Nokia and it’s likely that their financial situation will improve in the next few financial quarters.
