The battle of the curved handsets is underway as both LG and Samsung have their own takes on what a curved display should be. Samsung has already detailed the specifications for the Galaxy Round but up till now we’ve only seen rumours and renders of the G Flex from LG.
LG have taken away our speculation though and we’re happy about that, the company has released the specifications for the Korean version of the G Flex handset which is expected to become available in Korea in November this year. Availability elsewhere is still to be announced.
The G Flex will feature everyone’s darling at the moment, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 800 processor running at 2.26GHz, backed up by 2GB of LPDDR3 system memory and 32GB of eMMC storage. The curved 6-inch display will be a 720p (1280 x 720) P-OLED affair and LG will be adding a 13MP rear camera to the unit. The 3,500mAh battery will be integrated, something which probably makes sense given the shape of the phone and the whole show will be running Android 4.2.2 at launch.
As for connectivity, LG is throwing in everything you’d like aside from a satellite dish – Bluetooth 4.0, LTE support, NFC, WiFi up to 802.11 a and USB 3.0 compatibility will all be features for the curved G Flex.
There is one more item of interest with LG’s new phone. Apparently the G Flex is “…the first smartphone to apply a “Self Healing” coating on the back cover”, meaning that it will fix minor scratches caused by everyday use by itself, according to LG. It won’t do a thing about water or drop damage but at least you can get a few nicks on the back without worry about it too much.
