LG launches its curved OLED TV in SA

LG, at an event held at Montecasino in Johannesburg today, launched their “world’s first” curved OLED TV in South Africa. The television set, the 55EA9800, promises an “…amazingly immersive and comfortable viewing experience” according to LG.

Also launched at the event were two smaller additions to LG’s UHD (4K) lineup of TVs. LG has followed up the launch of a 84-inch UHD TV with 65- and 55-inch models. Both sets, the 65LA9700 and 55LA9650, feature LG’s Tru-ULTRA HD Engine, which LG claims can upscale “any type of content” to near UHD quality, something which Stuff has yet to see in action. The ability to stream UHD from a USB drive is another feature of the two new TVs. LG’s 65-inch set also boasts a built-in 50W 4.1 sound system

All three of the newly unveiled TVs will have the same collection of features like the company’s Smart TV platform, Magic Remote control via voice and gestures, wireless and NFC connectivity and they’ll all be 3D capable.

The new TVs will become available this month and LG’s 55EA9800 will sport a recommended price of a cool R200,000 while the 65-inch UHD TV is pegged at R85,000. The 55-inch UHD unit will be available for around the R60,000 mark.
