Samsung files for ‘Galaxy Gear’ smartwatch trademark

Reports have surfaced that Samsung has filed  an application for a Galaxy Gear trademark on the 29th of July with the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).

According to the application, the device will be a “Wearable digital electronic devices in the form of a wristwatch, wrist band or bangle capable of providing access to the Internet and for sending and receiving phone calls, electronic mails and messages.”
Well, that does sound an awful lot like a smartwatch.

The application also mentions WiFi capability, data transmission and management capabilities for personal information, possibly pertaining to smart phones, tablet computers and portable computers.

The future of smart tech seems to be headed straight towards the smartwatch genre, with Sony already having brought out its version of the gadget and the other tech giants now seemingly eager to get into the business.
