Ubisoft unleashing several more video game properties on the big screen

French video game publisher Ubisoft has had designs on the motion picture world for some time, with films based on the Assassin’s Creed, Splinter Cell and Ghost Recon gaming franchises already announced or in development.

The gaming company has announced three additional films based on Ubisoft properties, one of which is based on a game that has not yet been released. Unreleased stealth thriller Watch_Dogs, open-world shooter Far Cry and Ubisoft’s Rabbids will be getting the celluloid treatment but, Variety reports, the game publisher won’t be adapting any existing stories for the films.

Instead, Ubisoft Motion Pictures CEO Jean-Julien Baronnet has said that they will be setting the films in their respective locations with all-new stories. Ubisoft will be retaining creative control over the films, something that the company has been adamant about doing with adaptations of its properties. Baronnet has said that this is because they want to have a situation where “no one can tell us you have to do the movie a certain way.”

Release dates for the newly-announced films are unknown but the Assassin’s Creed and Splinter Cell movies are expected in 2015 so it is likely that viewers will see a Rabbid or twenty-seven onscreen after the two earlier titles are released.
