OpenAI’s ChatGPT recently took another step toward becoming an actually useful digital assistant with the launch of a new tasks and reminders feature.
Currently still in its beta stage, the feature should already be available to Plus, Team, and Pro subscribers with the company adding “and eventually to everyone with a ChatGPT account.”
ChatGPT will do your bidding
Today we’re rolling out a beta version of tasks—a new way to ask ChatGPT to do things for you at a future time.

As you might’ve guessed from the name, the new feature allows users to create one-time or recurring scheduled tasks. It’s not going to bring you coffee in the morning but if you need a daily weather report every morning or a weekly reminder to get the bins ready for garbage collection, ChatGPT can now handle those burdens for you.
Or maybe there’s something you’ve previously discussed with the bot. It will be able to suggest tasks it thinks you’ll want but either way, you’ll need to approve any tasks it conjures up before they will be actioned. When a task is completed, you’ll get a notification whether you’re on the web, desktop, or mobile version.
In chat or through the tasks page under the profile menu, you can schedule tasks you want ChatGPT to do, such as send you a weekly global news briefing, get a daily personalized 15-minute workout, or set a reminder for the future. pic.twitter.com/RC0GkhcbNR

The new feature isn’t without caveats. For now, it’s only accessible via the web interface, or on Android, iOS, and macOS – the Windows app will get it a little later. You’re also limited to ten active tasks at a time which you can manage in your GPT chat threads or through a new tasks interface (only in a web browser for now).
Despite the caveats, if this sounds useful, you’ll need to select “4o with scheduled tasks” as your ChatGPT model – you’ll also need to pay for the privilege, at least for now. OpenAI hasn’t come out and said when it plans to bring its new tasks feature to ChatGPT’s free tier further than “eventually”.
