After months of speculation, Sony is finally ready to show the PS5 Pro to the world. No, not like that. This is an official Sony “PlayStation 5 Technical Presentation hosted by Mark Cerny” – the lead architect of the PS5. It might be masquerading as a simple check-up on the PS5’s future, but we know better. It helps that Sony forgot to update the bold-as-day “PS5 Pro” YouTube title when visiting through the official blog post.

Brace yourself (and your wallet). The PS5 Pro is coming
If you’re hoping to tune into the ‘totally not a PS5 Pro announcement’, you’ll need to have your popcorn popped and your butts in the good seat around the TV by 17h00 SAST this evening, 10 September. Aside from a general idea of what the PS5 Pro looks like, actual specs are still a mystery to most. Expect Cerny to gush about the technical side of the Pro for nine minutes straight, hopefully confirming the upgrades to the GPU and CPU that The Verge reckons are in the console’s future, according to documents it saw back in April.
The document’s promise of a 45% bump to GPU render speeds compared to the original PS5 could be true. The Pro will reportedly hang onto the same CPU stuck in the original console but features a new mode that’ll allow it to clock higher, targeting a 3.85GHz CPU frequency – 10% more than the PS5.
