The writing was on the wall for Sony’s generic Overwatch rip-off, Concord, ever since it was revealed that the game had only managed to garner an all-time peak of – get this – 697 players on Steam at launch. Which, if you weren’t aware, was less than two weeks back. But even Stuff’s pessimistic souls couldn’t quite believe the news that Sony was shutting the entire project down, delisting it off storefronts and offering players full refunds.
Long live… Deadlock?
This isn’t the word of some leaker, either. Concord’s very own game director (they had a game director?), Ryan Ellis, confirmed the game’s untimely death on an official PlayStation blog post yesterday. The official time of death? Friday, 6 September – a bittersweet ending on the game’s two-week anniversary.
Having never dipped our toes into Concord, we’ll never truly know if the game’s fate was deserved or not. But a combination of a R750 price tag in a sea of better (and free) hero shooters, generally poor word of mouth, and a distinct lack of any real creativity, we’ll take Sony’s word that a tax write-off was the right decision.

“While we determine the best path ahead, Concord sales will cease immediately and we will begin to offer a full refund for all gamers who have purchased the game for PS5 or PC. If you purchased the game for PlayStation 5 from the PlayStation Store or PlayStation Direct, a refund will be issued back to your original payment method,” said Ellis.
You’ll need to wait up to 30-60 days before you see dividends on that Concord refund if you’re a PlayStation 5 buyer. Those five people eagerly awaiting refunds from Steam or Epic Games should be notified of their automatic refunds “over the coming days.”
