Uber South Africa offers cheaper rides on Wednesday to get you to the voting booths

You are officially out of excuses to go and vote when the time comes on Wednesday, 29 May. Uber South Africa has announced that it’ll be offering ride discounts on the day, all in the hopes of getting more people out of the house and through the doors of their local ballot booths. There is a catch, however. There’s always a catch.

“We’re committed to helping to ensure that transport isn’t a barrier to making your mark,” the company said. That’s all well and good, but it’s worth mentioning that Uber is only offering this discount — which knocks off 35% on two of your trips, both to the voting station and back again — to the first 50,000 customers that use the promo code.

If you’re up early enough, punch ‘VOTESA24’ into the promotion code field of your Uber app, and it’ll automatically apply the 35% discount to your next two trips. Rides must be over R40 per trip to participate in the promotion. The platform’s regular Ts & Cs still apply.

You can use the promotional code by opening the Uber app (Android, iOS) and heading to ‘Account’ and then ‘Payment’. Scroll down towards ‘Promotions’ and then tap ‘Add promo code’, followed by entering ‘VOTESA24’ into the field. This will not work on any day other than Wednesday, 29 May.
